Sofa Cushion Covers

Sofa cushion covers do more work than any other soft furnishing, so they are the place to spend a little more. Cotton duck and tweed take daily use best, they get sat on and thin cloth shows it first. On a dark sofa, light cushion covers lift the whole piece. On a pale sofa, one saturated colour beats four muted ones. If the sofa is patterned, keep the sofa cushion covers solid. Sofa cushion covers age fastest, because that is where people sit. Buying two sets and rotating them doubles the life of both. They also add softness and colour to a wooden sofa, making it feel more inviting and comfortable. Buying two sets and rotating them doubles the life of both.

Bedroom Cushion Covers

Softer cushion covers in velvet, wool or brushed cotton, layered against the bedcover rather than matched to it. Velvet and wool cushion covers suit bedrooms and formal corners, while a cotton bedcover offers an easy, versatile foundation for the look.

Floor and Lumbar Cushion Covers

Long bolsters and oversized floor cushions for a reading corner, one floor cushion and one lumbar, where the oversized cushion covers earn their place.

Dining and Study Cushion Covers

Solid textured cushion covers on hard chairs, chosen for wipeability over pattern. Cheaper than reupholstering.

Find Your Size

Get the size right and the rest follows. Our cushions, sofa cushion covers included, come in four working shapes.

Size	Measurement	Best For
Standard square	41 x 41 cm (16" x 16")	The safest first buy in cushion covers
Full square	46 x 46 cm (18" x 18")	The best sofa cushion covers size for deep seats
Lumbar	36 x 50 cm (14" x 20")	Back support and visual variety
Bolster / floor	30 x 60 cm up to 61 x 61 cm	Long bolsters and oversized floor cushions

A three-seater wants two 18" squares at the ends, two 16" inside them, one lumbar in the middle. Mixing shapes stops a sofa looking like a showroom display. When people buy cushion covers online and end up disappointed, it is nearly always because every one of the sofa cushion covers they ordered was the same size.

Materials We Use

Pure cotton is the backbone, joined by recycled cotton, cotton blends, cotton duck, linen, velvet, tweed and wool, with screen and digital printing, embroidery and woven construction. Fabric matters more than pattern: a print on thin cloth goes limp within months, the real difference between our cushions and the affordable cushion and covers online elsewhere.

Fabric	Characteristics	Best For
Cotton duck	Takes daily use best, holds shape under sitting	Everyday use on a sofa
Tweed	Durable, textured handle	Sofa seating and hard-worn seats
Pure cotton, recycled cotton, cotton blends	The backbone of the range	General everyday cushion covers
Velvet	Soft handle, more formal	Bedrooms and formal corners
Wool	Warm, textured	Bedrooms and formal corners
Linen	Creases with use	Rooms where a relaxed look is wanted

Prints and Collections

Abstract, geometric, floral, botanical, narrative and solid textured designs run across Freedom Tree Nest, Promises, Moonflower, Kingdoms, Rainshine and Promise to the Planet, in aqua, blue, green, ochre, blush, charcoal and neutrals, so a set of cushions can disappear into your sofa or become the loudest thing in the room. Shopping cushion and covers online for the first time, start with two printed cushion covers and one solid in a shared palette. It works in almost every room and it is how most people who buy cushion covers online with us begin.

How to Choose

Styling a Sofa

Odd numbers beat even: five across a three-seater, three on a loveseat. Vary the size, not just the print. Keep one colour running through the group so it reads as a set and let the largest sofa cushion covers sit at the outer arms. These calls are hard to make when you buy cushion covers online, which is why we photograph every design in styled rooms, not on white.

Room by Room

Room	Choice	Notes
Living room	Sofa cushion covers in cotton duck, five to a three-seater	One print carrying the palette; this is where most people start
Bedroom	Softer cushion covers in velvet, wool or brushed cotton	Layered against the bedcover rather than matched to it
Reading corner	One floor cushion and one lumbar	Where the oversized cushion covers earn their place
Dining and study	Solid textured cushions on hard chairs	Chosen for wipeability over pattern

Room by room rather than all at once is the sanest way to shop cushion and covers online: you see how the first set behaves before buying the rest.

Fillers

Fillers are sold separately, deliberately: a good insert outlives several covers, so you replace the cloth and keep the filling. Buy the insert one inch larger than the cover, sofa cushion covers included, a 17" insert in a 16" cover gives a plump, hotel-sofa fill instead of a half-empty square. Nothing ruins a well-chosen set faster than an undersized insert, the commonest mistake people make when they buy cushion covers online.

Care

Most pieces are dry clean only and embroidered cushion covers need care around zips and claws. Check the listing before washing.

• Dry clean most printed and woven cushion covers.
• Air out rather than wash when a cover is tired, not dirty.
• Line dry in shade where a listing allows gentle washing.
• Rotate cushion covers between rooms to even out sun exposure.

Sunlight is the real enemy: a south-facing window seat will fade a cushion within a year, whichever ones you choose and whoever made them.

Why Freedom Tree

We are a design house before we are a shop. Every print begins as a drawing, not a trend report, which is why our cushion covers sit beside our bedcovers, curtains and furniture instead of competing with them. Buy cushion covers online from a studio and the pieces talk to each other; buy them from a marketplace and they rarely do.

That coherence is the real reason to shop cushion and covers online with us. Every piece here is an original print on a named fabric, made in India.
